A Rebel and a Teacher

A Bible lesson that transforms into a puppet show, an ars poetic confession, and a series of reflections on Hebrew-Jewish-Israeli reality.

The play "Sorer u'Moreh" (Rebel and Teacher) is a Bible lesson that transforms into a puppet show, an ars poetic confession, and a series of reflections on Hebrew-Jewish-Israeli reality.
At the center of the play is a fringe theater artist who finds himself in a midlife crisis as a high school Bible teacher. The two worlds—subversive and pedagogical — collide as biblical scenes blend with the dynamics of an Israeli classroom, incorporating the stories of students and the teacher's personal life.
Through this, the performance explores a variety of personal and collective conflicts: religion versus secularism, the meaning of acquiring knowledge in the digital age, sexuality and violence in the lives of teenagers, intimacy in an alienated reality saturated with virtual experiences, and the disintegration of familial and inter-sectoral ties in Israeli society, among others.
